Film Wojciech Kilar – między awangardą a Hollywood w reżyserii Violetty Rotter-Kozery opowiada m.in. o tym, jak wyglądała droga polskiego kompozytora do sukcesu w światowym przemyśle filmowym, co było dla twórcy źródłem inspiracji, a także dokumentuje, jak współpracę z kompozytorem wspominają reżyserowie oraz muzycy. O swoich spotkaniach i osobistych relacjach z Wojciechem Kilarem opowiadają w filmie m.in.: Kazimierz Kutz, Krzysztof Zanussi, Antoni Wit, Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, Peter Jablonski, Fred Fuchs.
Premiera filmu odbyła się 29 listopada 2017 w Kinie Iluzjon w Warszawie. Specjalny pokaz i śląska premiera filmu we wrześniu 2018 w sali koncertowej Narodowej Orkiestry Symfonicznej Polskiego Radia w Katowicach w ramach I Międzynarodowego Konkursu Muzycznego im. K. Szymanowskiego zgromadziła niemal siedemset osób.
Na 13. FilmAt Festival decyzją międzynarodowego jury dokument otrzymał dwie nagrody: w konkursie międzynarodowym – jako najlepszy film Documentaries & TV Reports w kategorii Art., Music & Culture oraz w konkursie narodowym – jako najlepszy dokument w kategorii Biografia. W grudniu 2018 film prezentowany był też dwukrotnie przy nadkomplecie publiczności podczas Festiwalu Cinema Verite w Teheranie w cyklu Biografie. W marcu 2019 w Konkursie Stowarzyszenia Dziennikarzy Polskich otrzymał Nagrodę im. Macieja Łukasiewicza za publikacje na temat współczesnej cywilizacji i kultury oraz popularyzację wiedzy, ufundowaną przez Narodowe Centrum Kultury.

The film Wojciech Kilar – Between Avant-garde and Hollywood directed by Violetta Rotter-Kozera presents  the Polish composer's path to success in the film industry, his sources of inspiration, and the recollections of directors and musicians who talk about their cooperation with Kilar. Kazimierz Kutz, Krzysztof Zanussi, Antoni Wit, Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, Peter Jablonski, Fred Fuchs tell us about their encounters and personal relations with Wojciech Kilar.
The film premièred on 29 November 2017 in the Iluzjon Cinema in Warsaw. The special screening and the Silesian première of the film in September 2018 in the concert hall of the National Symphonic Orchestra of the Polish Radio in Katowice during the First K. Szymanowski International Music Competition attracted almost seven hundred people.
During the 13th FilmAt Festival the international jury decided to award the documentary in the following two categories: in the international competition, as the best film among Documentaries & TV Reports in the category of Art, Music & Culture, and in the national competition – as the best documentary in the category of Biography. In December 2018 the film was also shown twice during the Cinema Verite Festival in Tehran, in the cycle Biographies, to a more than full house. In March 2019, during the Polish Journalists Association Competition, the film received the Maciej Łukasiewicz Award, funded by the National Centre for Culture, for publications concerning contemporary civilization and culture as well as popularization of knowledge.
